About Us

Thetford Elementary School (TES) currently serves 172 children in grades K-6. Our dedicated community includes experienced classroom teachers, para-educators, and support staff. The program of studies follows a standards-based curriculum that includes arts, agriculture, place-based sciences, social sciences, and project-based learning. We also have a thriving P.B.I.S. program (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports)with the common values of being Safe, Kind, and Responsible.

The town's children continue their secondary education at Thetford Academy (TA), which is the oldest private secondary school in Vermont.

As a community, we strive to minimize our carbon footprint. We compost 99% of our school's food waste, and the resulting material is used to grow fruit and vegetables in the School Gardens. Also, in February of 2015, we installed a fully functional 141 kW (DC) ground-mounted solar array, which has generated over 1279 MWh of electricity as of August 30, 2025. (For perspective, this is enough to power over 236 million cell phones, and over 53,000 electric cars!)
